Post World War II
Three large brands started during the post World War II building phase.
In Germany Adi Dassler and Rudolph Dassler had a falling out. Rudolf moved across the river in Herzogenaurach, Germany. There he would start Puma in 1948. One year later Adi changed the name of the Dassler Shoe Factory to adidas. Today those two large brands sit roughly across the street from each other in Herzogenaurach.
On the other side of the world in Kobe, Japan Onitsuka Company LTD. (Asics) opened.
These three brands are global brands today. Very few people around the world have not heard of all three of these brands.
In Sydney over the weekend all three of these brands shined. Sure, they had major competition from the new kids on the block (Nike, Brooks, New Balance, Hoka and On) but from where they started in the rubble of war torn cities, they have come a very long way.
Sydney Marathon
This was the first year the Sydney Marathon would be dubbed a World Marathon Major. The race drew large numbers for the weekend, 50,000 runners in 3 different races. It also drew some of the star runners.
